Way to go Waypoint for becoming a Recovery Friendly Workplace!!!! Makin’ It Happen is grateful to be able to partner with this amazing organization and support their work in reducing stigma around Substance Use Disorder and educating their employees about how to support employees, their family, and clients in recovery.
Waypoint, formerly known as Child and Family Services, serves New Hampshire residents across the state with a range of support. Their mission is to empower people of all ages through an array of human services and advocacy. Services includes– adoption, prenatal support, parent education/family empowerment, services for children with developmental concerns or chronic health conditions, child care, mental health counseling including substance use disorder support, family preservation, supervised visitation, foster care, homeless youth continuum, home healthcare for older Americans and adults with disabilities, and advocacy.
Waypoint places a high value on ensuring that they welcome all staff and their family members as well as the participants in their various programs. They aim to serve people regardless of age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, race, behavioral health, and recovery status. As a result of these values Waypoint decided to work with Makin’ It Happen to become a Recovery Ready Workplace!
The Recovery Ready Communities (RRC) initiative is focused on developing a model of care that increases the region’s resiliency. RRC is designed to develop the region’s capacity to respond, address, and strengthen support to all aspects of behavioral and physical health. Makin’ It Happen does this through our efforts to engage, educate and empower those that live, work, and play in our communities.
Becoming a Recovery Friendly Workplace is a great example of how businesses can be a part of developing Recovery Ready Community in the Greater Manchester region. By becoming designated as a Recovery Friendly Workplace organizations can strengthen their understanding, policies and support to individuals that may be experiencing a mental health, physical or substance use disorder concern.
Borja Alvarez de Toledo, M.Ed and President and CEO of Waypoint of New Hampshire explains that Waypoint takes “our designation as a Recovery Friendly Workplace with a mixture of pride and responsibility. As an agency that helps thousands of families every year recover from difficult circumstances, it is now also our duty to become an employer that is inclusive of people in recovery”
Makin’ It Happen is working in collaboration with our Recovery Friendly Workplace partners to support Waypoint in their efforts. Waypoint does their Recovery Ready work through their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team. They developed the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Steering Committee in order to be strategic and intentional about creating an environment that keeps with their values of providing a healthy, safe, stigma, and harassment-free workplace that promotes diversity among all organizational levels.
Waypoint accomplishes the goals of their DEI Steering Committee in various ways including:
Encouraging safe conversation around understanding and supporting individuals that are different than ourselves
Supporting diversity among staff and program participants
Developing policies and proving safe supports for staff and their family members impacted by behavioral health substance use disorders
We thank Waypoint for their leadership in building a Recovery Ready community through their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team which includes becoming a Recovery Friendly Workplace. It will be exciting to see what the future holds!
